Businesses that fall victim to culture wars surrounding hot-button topics can face significant financial hardships if they become the targets of boycotts, Cancel Culture expert Evan Nierman told BBC News in a recent interview.

Evan, the Founder and CEO of the crisis PR agency Red Banyan and author of The Cancel Culture Curse: From Rage to Redemption in a World Gone Mad, told the BBC that similar boycotts have had “devastating” financial impacts on US companies.

“The immediate financial impacts of boycotts are self-evident,” Evan said. “They could produce even greater losses when you calculate long-term damage to their reputation and loss of loyal consumers.”
