Kelly Clarkson’s viral clash with a Brooklyn toy shop has people picking sides. Red Banyan CEO Evan Nierman joined CBS New York to break down what went wrong and how it should end.
He gave Art of Play credit for responding fast, until the store threw Clarkson’s own lyrics back at her. “I think they thought they were being clever, but it came off as a bit snarky and probably ticked Kelly off even more.”
His off-ramp is simple. “I’d invite Kelly in. I’d sit over a matcha latte and resolve the thing. Maybe have her sing a duet with Molly the Mechanical Bird.”
For any business caught in a moment like this, his advice is to move fast and own the story. “You have to press the truth. You have to drive the narrative. Otherwise, you let yourself be defined by the criticism.”
