Washington Post: Red Banyan Crisis PR Expert Evan Nierman Discusses Fallout from Baldwin Shooting on “Rust” Set
Evan Nierman, Founder and CEO of global crisis public relations firm Red Banyan, discussed actor Alec Baldwin’s lack of preparedness in a Washington Post article on the actor’s recent involuntary manslaughter charge. Baldwin fatally shot cinematographer Halyna Hutchins in October 2021 on the movie set of “Rust” when he pulled the trigger on a prop gun that contained a live round.
Evan said Baldwin seemed “woefully unprepared” during a December 2021 interview with George Stephanopoulos, calling that moment “the inflection point” in a series of poor choices. Apart from Baldwin’s own public comments, Baldwin’s lawyer’s statement last week, saying they had been “blindsided” by the impending charges against the actor, was also unwise, Evan notes in the article.
“It’s completely the wrong thing to say, and all it does is cement this narrative that celebrities in general and Baldwin in particular are detached from reality,” said Evan, a crisis communications expert. “How could you be shocked?”
